Haylock Maritime was established in 2004 by Jack Hunter, an experienced Marine Engineer and former surveyor with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.

The firm has quickly established a loyal client base among shipping companies, shippers, freight forwarders and regulatory bodies, thanks to a practical approach and extensive industry knowledge.

Haylock Maritime Pty Ltd provides consultancy, surveying and training services to the Australian maritime industry, as well as distributing maritime publications and software.

Haylock Maritime contracts a broad range of marine professionals as needed for each project. The firm's network of co-workers include naval architects, marine equipment manufacturers, specialist engineers, marine operations specialists, university professors, marine surveyors and shipwrights.


Haylock Maritime Director Jack Hunter has more than 30 years' hands-on experience as a Marine Engineer, Marine Surveyor and maritime consultant and trainer.

After 14 years at sea for Australian and International operators, Jack spent more than six years working with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority as a Marine Surveyor, Examiner of Engineers and Occupational Health and Safety Inspector.

With AMSA Jack developed his investigation skills through training and hands-on experience, developing a reputation as an excellent, objective investigator of marine incidents and accidents.

Jack's qualifications include:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Marine Engineering), Australian Maritime College
  • Engineer Class One Certificate of Competency (Motor and Steam), AMSA
  • Graduate Certificate in Marine Surveying, Australian Maritime College
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical), Monash University
  • Short courses in Investigative Methods and Fraud Control Investigations
  • Occupational Health and Safety training including OH&S Investigators' Certificate and Auditors course
  • Training qualifications.
